What is Spur Gear??
Spur gears have teeth on parallel shafts, so it is very
useful to transfer the movement from one shaft to another. Straight gears are
the most easily visualized common gears that transmit movement between two parallel
axes. Due to its shape, it is classified as a type of cylindrical gear. Since
the surface of the gear tooth is parallel to the axis of the mounted shaft, no
thrust is generated in the axial direction.
Parts of Spur Gears:-
The various parts found in the spur gear are the
following.
Teeth:- The gear teeth
serves to generate propulsive force,
which means that the power is transmitted from the motor shaft to the axis of
the unit. Well defined profiles are considered when manufacturing and
designing.
Circles:- This
includes the step circle (R) where all the teeth are paired. Ri, which crosses
the joint and ends at the origin, and the outer circle (R3), which is the outer
limit of the gear.
Types of straight tooth gears:-
We can find parallel straight gears, cylindrical gears and
vertical bevel gears.
In the case of electronics (parallel straight gears) it is
the simplest type of gear that can transmit energy through the shaft. This
speed is particularly slow and medium because it produces very little noise.
In the case of vertical bevel gears, the force is
transmitted between the axes that are inclined to each other and run almost in
a straight line along the same plane. Because they generate more noise than
other types of gears, they
have become unusable for other reasons (mainly used to reduce shaft speed to 90
degrees).
Applications and uses of straight gears:-
Straight gears are very common in many areas.
It is widely implemented where applications that require
slow motion or noise that can occur in fast motion do not have a significant
impact, such as security or automated sales systems.
Other uses of straight tooth gear include:
· Printing machine.
· Machines used to process materials such as PVC, metal or wood.
· Industrial conveyor belt
· Food handling equipment
· Packaging and labeling machinery.
· Robotics and renewable energy.
